I am fortunate to have lived a life filled with loves, friendships and losses, creative and spiritual adventures, wandering, studying - art, science, nature, politics, myth and story and campaigning for social and ecological justice. You might find some of those things in my work but then again you might not. I am inclined to agree with those artists who consider that some ideas have a life of their own and that they are on the lookout for collaborative partners who will bring them to birth in the material world. In this case, the resulting art comes not from the individual but from a collective pool of ideas.
Sometimes my work is inspired by, or forms part of activism I am involved in. I make work which uses images, words and objects to explore the relationship between environmental and social justice, to call attention the ecological and political crisis we face and talk about some solutions to it.
Other times my work is inspired by the power and beauty of nature and the secrets that close engagement with it can bring. It is certainly the case that much of my recent work is rooted in my relationship with the landscape where I stay and of other lands and places I have visited or stayed in for short and longer times. My work is informed by extensive research, inspired by both the material world of landscape and people and through reading, listening to and looking at the analytical, discursive and creative outputs of others.
I hope you find things of beauty and interest here.
If you do, get in touch and let me know, I would love to hear your thoughts.
