The Isle of Bute is a place close to heart, where I visit often. Whilst researching the impact of climate change on the island I found scenes of devastation following the harvest of a commercial forest surrounding Blackpark, an ancient stone circle, near Kingarth, to the south of the island. These two oil paintings, Commercial Harvest, Orange and Commercial Harvest, Green, developed out of the chance encounter with a family at Blackpark stone circle. These images form part of a larger series of work (along with Installations) documenting the aftermath of the commercial harveste. My blog post "What trees can teach us about alternatives to capitalism and extinction" describes some of my research and inspiration for this work.
